FoliagePal is operated by Nanjing Hongliu Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. ("we," "us," or "our"). We value your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share, and protect information when you use FoliagePal and related services.

1. Scope

This Policy applies to the FoliagePal mobile application, website, and related services. We provide different service configurations for users in Mainland China and users outside Mainland China, depending on location, download channel, platform, and service availability. Login methods, payment channels, advertising, push notifications, analytics, AI services, and data storage regions may differ by region.

We may determine your applicable service region based on factors such as download channel, device region settings, phone number country/region code, IP address, system language, and the region you choose. If you register overseas, use a VPN or proxy, or your network environment causes region detection to change, you may be treated as an overseas user and subject to overseas data processing practices.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect the following information:

  • Account information: phone number, email address, nickname, profile photo, Apple ID identifier, Google account identifier, WeChat account-related identifier, login status, and account security information.
  • Plant and care data: plant photos you upload or take, plant names, identification records, pest and disease diagnosis records, care plans, watering/fertilizing/pruning records, growth timelines, history, and cloud sync data.
  • AI interaction data: text, images, questions, contextual information, and AI-generated results submitted to AI assistant, diagnosis, identification, and care guide features. We do not use your plant photos to train or improve models.
  • Community information: posts, comments, likes, follows, private messages, reports, public profile photo, public nickname, public profile page, and moderation records.
  • Device and network information: device model, operating system version, app version, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, push tokens, IP address, network status, language, and region settings.
  • Usage data: feature usage, page views, taps/clicks, task completion, performance metrics, crash logs, and error logs.
  • Payment and subscription information: order ID, purchase channel, subscription type, subscription status, payment status, expiration time, and transaction receipts returned by platforms. We do not collect or store your full bank card number, payment account password, or other sensitive payment credentials.
  • Permission-related information: with your authorization, we may access your camera, photos/media library, and notifications.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide plant identification, pest and disease diagnosis, AI conversations, care plans, reminders, cloud sync, and history features
  • Create, authenticate, and manage your account
  • Provide community posting, commenting, liking, following, private messaging, reporting, and content moderation features
  • Process VIP subscriptions, auto-renewals, payment verification, and entitlement delivery
  • Show ads, control ad frequency, and support ad personalization settings
  • Send care reminders, system notifications, community interaction notices, and subscription-related messages
  • Analyze app usage and improve performance, stability, and user experience
  • Protect account, transaction, community, and system security, and prevent fraud, abuse, attacks, and unlawful activity
  • Comply with legal obligations, regulatory requirements, platform rules, and dispute resolution needs

4. Data Storage by Region

We separate data storage and processing for users in Mainland China and users outside Mainland China.

Data of Mainland China users is primarily stored in Tencent Cloud regions located in Mainland China. Photos and uploaded content of Mainland China users are stored in Tencent Cloud COS regions located in Mainland China and delivered through Mainland China CDN acceleration. We do not proactively transfer personal information of Mainland China users outside Mainland China, unless required to comply with legal obligations, handle security incidents, respond to a cross-region service requested by you, or obtain your separate consent where required by applicable law.

Data of overseas users is primarily stored in Tencent Cloud regions in the United States and Singapore. Photos and uploaded content of overseas users are stored in overseas Tencent Cloud COS regions and delivered through overseas CDN acceleration.

We use technical configurations to limit data access, service calls, and third-party SDK activation by region.

5. Third-Party Services

We enable different third-party services depending on region and platform. Not all services listed below apply to every user.

Mainland China version may use:

  • Phone number login and verification code services for registration, login, and identity verification.
  • WeChat Login/WeChat Pay for login, payment, and order processing.
  • Alipay for payment and order processing.
  • Apple Sign In/Apple In-App Purchase for iOS login, subscription, and payment processing.
  • Pangle advertising for ad display, ad measurement, and frequency control.
  • JPush for push notifications and message delivery.
  • Baidu AI, MiniMax, Tongyi Qianwen, and DeepSeek for plant identification, AI conversations, care recommendations, pest and disease diagnosis, and plant analysis.
  • Tencent Cloud COS, Tencent Cloud CDN, and Tencent Cloud servers for data storage, image storage, content delivery, and service operation.
  • Umami for anonymous or de-identified usage analytics.

Overseas version may use:

  • Google Sign-In for account login.
  • Apple Sign In/Apple In-App Purchase for login, subscription, and payment processing.
  • Email login for account registration, login, and verification.
  • Google Play Billing for subscriptions and payment processing on the overseas Android version.
  • Google AdMob for ad display, ad measurement, and ad personalization.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications.
  • Firebase Analytics for analytics in the overseas version.
  • Firebase Crashlytics for crash logs and stability analysis in the overseas version; Mainland China users are not routed to Firebase.
  • Baidu AI, MiniMax, Tongyi Qianwen, and DeepSeek for plant identification, AI conversations, care recommendations, pest and disease diagnosis, and plant analysis, with region-based service routing.
  • Tencent Cloud COS, Tencent Cloud CDN, and Tencent Cloud regions in the United States and Singapore for data storage, image storage, content delivery, and service operation.
  • Umami for anonymous or de-identified usage analytics.

6. AI Services

Images, text, plant records, and contextual information you submit to plant identification, pest and disease diagnosis, AI assistant, and care guide features may be sent to applicable AI service providers for processing. AI-generated content is for reference only and may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, or unsuitable for your specific circumstances.

Unless we obtain your separate explicit consent, we do not use your plant photos to train or improve models. We may conduct manual or automated review of community content, including posts and comments, to maintain community safety and comply with laws and regulations.

7. Permissions

  • Camera: used to take plant photos, identify plants, record growth, or publish community content.
  • Photos/Media Library: used to select plant photos, upload identification images, save or publish content.
  • Notifications: used to send care reminders, system notifications, community interaction notices, and subscription-related messages.
  • IP Address: IP address is not a system permission, but we may process your IP address during network connection, region detection, security protection, log analysis, and service delivery.

You may deny or disable permissions in system settings. Some features may become unavailable if permissions are disabled, but other basic features will remain available.

8. Personalized Ads and Analytics

FoliagePal may display third-party ads depending on region. The Mainland China version may use Pangle, and the overseas version may use Google AdMob. Advertising services may process device information, advertising identifiers, IP address, app interaction data, and ad display records.

VIP users do not see in-app ads or task ad pages. Service notifications, community content, subscription status notices, system messages, and non-advertising operational information are not considered ads.

You can manage ad personalization in system settings, such as iOS tracking settings, Android/Google ad settings, or device manufacturer advertising identifier settings.

We use Umami for anonymous or de-identified analytics across all users. The overseas version may use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. Mainland China users are not routed to Firebase.

9. Community and Public Information

When you use community features, your profile photo, nickname, profile page, posts, comments, likes, follows, and other public content may be visible to other users. Please do not post information you do not wish to make public, and do not post other people's personal information, private content, unlawful content, or content that infringes others' rights.

We may conduct manual or automated moderation of posts, comments, private messages, reports, and AI-generated content, and may delete content, limit visibility, mute accounts, suspend accounts, or terminate accounts in accordance with laws, platform rules, and our community rules.

10. Sharing, Processing by Service Providers, and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We only share or disclose information in the following circumstances:

  • With your consent
  • To service providers as necessary for login, payment, advertising, push notifications, AI, storage, analytics, crash diagnosis, and other services
  • To comply with laws, regulations, regulatory requirements, court orders, or government requests
  • To protect the rights, property, and safety of users, us, or the public
  • In connection with a merger, division, acquisition, asset transfer, bankruptcy, or liquidation, provided that the recipient continues to be bound by this Policy or equivalent protections

We require service providers to process information under contract, confidentiality obligations, and applicable law, and not to use information beyond the agreed purposes.

11. Data Retention

We retain information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy.

  • Account information is retained while your account exists
  • Plant photos, care data, history, and cloud sync data are retained while your account exists unless you delete them
  • Community content is retained after publication until you delete it, we remove it under our rules, or it is processed after account deletion
  • Payment and subscription records are retained as necessary for platform settlement, tax, accounting, dispute resolution, and legal obligations
  • Security logs, crash logs, and analytics data are retained for a reasonable period and are de-identified or anonymized where possible

After you request account deletion, your account enters a 30-day grace period. During the grace period, you may cancel the deletion request. After the grace period expires, we will delete or anonymize your personal data, except for the minimum data that must be retained for legal obligations, payment settlement, dispute resolution, or security audit purposes.

12. Your Rights

Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or supplement your personal information
  • Delete your personal information or account
  • Withdraw consent
  • Disable personalized ads or related permissions
  • Receive a copy of your data
  • Close your account
  • File a complaint or contact us about personal information processing

13. Minors

Minors should use FoliagePal with the consent and guidance of a parent or legal guardian. Children under 14 years old must obtain explicit consent from a parent or legal guardian before using FoliagePal.

If you are a parent or legal guardian and believe that a minor has provided personal information to us without consent, please contact us at support@foliagepal.com. We will verify and handle the matter in accordance with applicable law, including deleting relevant information or restricting account features.

14. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including access control, encrypted transmission, permission management, security audits, and region-based data storage. However, no internet environment is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a personal information security incident occurs, we will take remedial measures and notify you or regulators where required by law.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you through in-app notices, pop-ups, website announcements, email, or other appropriate methods. Where applicable law requires renewed consent, we will obtain your consent. The updated Policy takes effect when published unless otherwise stated.
